New Assistant Professors at the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics has three new Assistant Professors starting this semester. Following is a short presentation of the new NHH researchers.

Aline Bütikofer from Switzerland
-As I'm working in the field of empirical labor economics, NHH was one of the top addresses in Europe for me. The labor group here is very active, internationally well linked, publishes extremely well and has access to the Norwegian register data. My hope is, that I'll be able to advance my work with the help of the labor group at NHH and that I can learn a lot from their experience with register data, she says.
She is 31 years of age, and a Master degree and a PhD from the University of Bern (Switzerland). In 2005 she spent a semester as an exchange student at the University of Bergen and she also spent almost a year at Boston College during her PhD in 2010.
Kai Liu from China
Liu has his education from University of Hong Kong, where he took his Bachelors, and John Hopkins University in USA, where Liu completed his masters. He is currently wrapping up his PhD at the same university by 2011.
His primary research interests are to found in Labor Economics and Applied Microeconomics, but he also devotes time to Development Economics.
Lars Ivar Oppedal Berge from Norway
The 31 year old has completed all of his academic degrees at NHH, and this semester he got the position as an Assistant Professor in Development Economics at the same institution.
- I am very happy that I can continue my research here at NHH. The department has great Professors, and many of them are conducting research on the same field as I am, he says.
In his research, Oppedal Berge is focusing on microfinance and human capital. He works alongside Bertil Tungodden and Kjetil Bjorvatn, both Professors at the same department, and PhD student Sari Juniwaty. He also holds a part time position at CMI (Chr. Michelsens Institutt).
