Bienz contributes to teaching at Harvard
Associate Professor Carsten Bienz at the Department of Finance has written a case study which will be used in teaching at Harvard Business School.
10.03.2014 - Lisbeth Heilund
Bienz and his colleagues at Harvard, Lucy White and Clayton Rose, have made a case about the service company ISS from Denmark. Bienz says that case studies are used both at Finance classes at Harvard and at Private Equity classes at NHH.
Why is it useful to make case studies as a teaching material for the students? - A case study is much more complex than a lecture based on models and books. We find a lot of material closer to the real world in a case study. The courses in Corporate Finance here at NHH are all based on case studies. They also use them at the AFA Programme at NHH Executive.
Is it time consuming to create a good case study?
- Yes, it takes quite a lot of time. You have to do research in the company, find media articles about them, read their annual reports and so on. It is a lot more time consuming than preparing a lecture, but not as much work as it is to write a research article.
