14 April: What will, or should, be the effects of the new grade descriptions for the master's theses at NHH?
20.03.2015 - Ed.
The Education Committee invites you to Pedagogical Hour on Tuesday 14 April at 10.15 - 12 in Auditorium C.
Topic
This spring NHH has adopted new grade descriptions for master's theses. What will, or should, be the effects of the new grade descriptions?
The Education Committee has invited Professor Carl Henrik Gørbitz to share his experiences. Carl Henrik Gørbitz is professor at the University of Oslo and Leader of The Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institutions' (UHR)) "grade panel" for master's degree exams in natural sciences, mathematics and technology.
Programme
10:15-10:20: Welcome by Rector Frøystein Gjesdal
10:20-11:10: Good institution = good grades or Good institution = good grade practice or What are grades for anyway? by Carl Henrik Gørbitz
11:10-12:00: Q&A session with Professor Carl Henrik Gørbitz and Per Erik Manne, Associate Professor, NHH
12:00-13:00: Lunch
Q&A session:
- What is the grade potential for a "flawless" valuation of a firm using well known methods? (Is C the limit?)
- Why shouldn't choice of topic, good supervision and high effort at a school with high admission requirements result in all A's and B's (and a few C's)?
- In light of requirements to independence, how far should a supervisor be able to supervise the grade, i.e. should any supervisor be able to say "I supervised my students to an A!"
The lectures will be in English.
The Education Committee invites you to have lunch afterwards.
