New PhD students at NHH

This autumn NHH has bid welcome to fifteen new PhD students from eight different countries.

Oddmund Berg

Department of Economics
The 25-year old Norwegian holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH.

- The PhD program at NHH offers great possibilities both in terms of coursework and in terms of seminars. My previous experience with the school and my supervisor was also a major factor, Berg replies when asked why he joined the PhD program.

Berg will be researching macroeconomics, and plans to use microeconomic data to explore how consumption and saving behavior among households affects other parts of the economy.


Giovanni Bruno

Department of Finance
The 26-year-old Bruno hails from Italy and holds an MSc in Quantitative Finance from LUISS University of Rome, in addition to a BSc in Economics from the Federico II University of Napoli. When asked why he chose the PhD program he replies:

- I chose the PhD program in Finance at NHH for the outstanding level of the faculty and the international environment at the school.

Bruno will be investigating asset pricing, derivatives and risk management.


Natalia Drozdova

Department of Strategy and Management
The 24-years old Drozdova comes from Russia, and holds a MSc in International Business from NHH and a CEMS MIM degree from NHH and IVEY. For Drozdova, the main motivation for joining the PhD program was her previous experience with NHH.

Drozdova will be doing her research on crowdfunding of start-ups and social media marketing.


Ranveig Falch

Department of Economics
The 27-year-old Falch hails from Norway and holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH. For Falch the primary draw of the PhD program was the academic environment:

- I chose the program because I wanted to become an integrated part of the thriving academic environment at NHH, and because I wanted to learn from researchers with strong academic expertise within my fields of interest.

Falch research lies within the fields of behavioral, experimental and development economics.


Negar Ghanbari

Department of Finance
Ghanbari is 28 years old and comes from Iran. She holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH and an MSc in Financial Engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology. Ghanbari will be researching asset pricing.


Ingar K. Haaland

Department of Economics
The Norwegian 24-year-old Haaland holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH. For Haaland the research environment was an important factor for joining the PhD program:

- NHH provides excellent research groups in the fields I want to do research. The collaborative environment and close interaction between PhD students and senior faculty is very positive.

Haaland plans to work on the determinants of redistributive preferences, international comparison of welfare views, and the consequences of imperfect information on choices.


Evangelos Kyritsis

Department of Business and Management Science
The Greek Kyritsis is 27 years old and holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH, an MSc in Business Economics and Management from the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, and a BA in Economics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

- The NHH PhD program provides a vibrant and intellectually stimulating environment of equality, fairness and respect within which cutting-edge research is conducted. Outstanding professors and researchers with interdisciplinary perspectives serve to inspire and encourage PhD students to advance the frontiers of research. As well, the expertise in energy economics at NHH renders this PhD program a unique opportunity for those who have a strong interest in the study of that field, Kyritsis replies when asked why he joined the PhD program.

Kyritsis will be investigating the impact of the intermittent renewable energy sources on electricity markets.


Nhat Quang Le

Department of Strategy and Management
The 26-year old Le come from Vietnam, and holds an MSc in Strategic Marketing Management from BI, an MSc in Marketing from the University of Groningen, and a research MSc in Economics and Business, also from the University of Groningen.

- The major reason why I chose to do a PhD at NHH is my supervisor, who is a nice person with a very pleasant personality and great expertise. It is promising that we can do a lot of interesting work together, says Le.

Le will be researching the effects of online word of mouth on consumer behavior, with a focus on online reviews.


Yuanming Ni

Department of Business and Management Science
The 24-year-old Ni hails from China and holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH. When asked why she chose the PhD program at NHH she replies:

- I like NHH and Norway, want to pursue higher education and hopefully work in academic in the future.

Ni will be studying management science.


Vít Procházka

Department of Business and Management Science
The 25-year-old Procházka hails from the Czech Republic and holds an MSc in Mathematical Engineering from Brno University of Technology. When asked why he chose the PhD program he replies:

- The PhD program fits pretty well into my interests and it is possible to make a high-quality research here under a great supervisor with a great deal of experiences. Besides that, I like Norway with its friendly environment and the wonderful nature I experienced during my Erasmus stay last year.

Procházka will be researching mathematical modelling of logistics processes in uncertain environment, with a focus on applying these approaches to the shipping industry.


Loreta Rapushi

Department of Finance
The 29-year-old Albanian holds an MSc in Quantitative Finance and Risk Management from Bocconi University and an MSc in Finance from Florence University. There are multiple reasons why she chose the PhD at program at NHH:

- NHH is the most important center of business research in Norway and has an intense international cooperation with other top educational institutions. In addition, I like Bergen and wanted to have some work and study experience out of Italy.

Rapushi will be studying financial stability and capital structure.


Lars Sendstad

Department of Business and Management Science
The 26-year-old Norwegian holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH. For Sendstad the research environment at NHH and the intrinsic value of research were important draws:

- The PhD-program at NHH seems like an excellent opportunity to explore a subject I find interesting and gives me access to top notch co-workers and resources. Furthermore, I feel that I am doing something meaningful by hopefully enhancing society's knowledge within my field.

Sendstad will be working within the field of real options and policy uncertainty.


Timothy Wyndham

Department of economics
Wyndham is 34 years old and comes from the United Kingdom. He holds an MSc Economics and Law from Utrecht University and a BSc Economic Science from the University of Manchester. When asked why he joined the PhD program at NHH he replies:

- I chose the PhD at NHH to develop my skills as an economist, to satisfy my intellectual curiosity and to challenge myself. Prior to joining NHH I worked as an economist for various parts of the British public sector. While this was rewarding in many ways, the pull back to academia was too strong in the end.

Wyndham will be working in the field of industrial organization, with a focus on firms that operate in two sided markets.


Xiaogeng Xu

Department of Economics
Xu is 25 years old and comes from China. She holds an MSc Economics and Business Administration from the Aalto University School of Business, and chose NHH following a recommendation from her Masters supervisor.

Xu will be researching consumer behavior and behavioral economics.


Xiaoyu Zhang

Department of Finance
Zhang is 24 years old and from China. She holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from NHH and a BA in Finance, Accounting and Management from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.

- I had my master program here at NHH also and I really like the school and the city. NHH is the best business school in Norway, and the school is full of talented researchers. I think it is my privilege to be here, continuing my PhD in such a friendly and helpful research environment, Zhang replies when asked why she joined the program.

Zhang will be researching empirical corporate finance.
