This year's autumn hiking trip went to Fitjadalen, a half hour drive from Kvamskogen, with 10 colleagues taking part.
The hike was not the most challenging when it comes to height gained but instead provided lots of interesting attractions.
These included the Norwegian equivalent of a bush kitchen complete with waffle iron and blackened kettle, timber table and benches and log chairs suited to the local trolls.
The hike stopped first at Døgnope where an overhanging rock face provides good shelter from wind and rain.
It then went on to Selesete, a former summer pasture, where a table and benches have been set up for weary travellers.
From there the hike continued to Skisete and down to the road at Ørdalsfossen waterfall, a well-kept secret close to the road up to Fitjadalen. The waterfall is 70 metres high and an impressive sight viewed from below.
Kitchen opening and 45th anniversary
After the hiking trip, the party retired to Småbruket where a warm cabin, hot showers and sauna awaited.
While dinner was being prepared, it was time to officially declare the refurbished facilities at Småbruket open. The new IKEA kitchens, each complete with built-in induction hob, oven and dishwasher, gleamed while ribbons were clipped and they were officially declared open.
All present agreed that the new kitchens are a significant improvement to the standard at the cabin.
The cabin's 45th anniversary in NHH's service was celebrated during the dinner with speeches, song and surprise gifts. Ingebjørg Tyssedal and Tove Skaar received resounding thanks for arranging the trip and preparing a wonderful dinner.
The Cabin Committee thank everyone who took part and wish all staff welcome to join the next outing in the spring.
